Four Chhattisgarh government employees, including an official of a Janpad Panchayat, were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting bribes in separate districts on Wednesday, an official said.
Separate teams of ACB laid traps in Balrampur, Balodabazar, Surguja and Narayanpur districts after receiving complaints against the four officials and employees and caught them while accepting bribe in cash, Superintendent of Police (ACB/Economic Offences Wing) Pankaj Chandra said.
In Balrampur, a civil contractor lodged a complaint that Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ramchandrapur Janpad Panchayat Vinay Gupta had allegedly sought a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to sanction payment against the construction of a culvert by him, he said.
After verifying the complaint, the Ambikapur unit of ACB laid a trap and Gupta was caught as he received Rs 60,000 as the first instalment of the bribe, he added.
In another case, Sunil Kumar Agrawal, Sub Engineer of Rural Engineering Service Department, Simga in Balodabazar, was caught by the Raipur unit of the ACB while accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 to verify and evaluate a concrete road built in the district, Chandra said.
In another raid, Pramod Gupta, an Assistant Grade II employee at the office of Block Education Officer, Batoli (Surguja), was held for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 to release the arrears of Seventh Pay commission to the complainant, a government employee.
Similarly, the Jagdalpur unit of ACB arrested Kishore Kumar Meshram, an Assistant Grade III employee of District Education Office Narayanpur, for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 for attachment of the complainant to another school, he said.
The four were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, the SP said, adding that further investigation is underway.
