The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs have started distributing food to the daily wage workers and migrants in their constituency. The party MLAs has also created a WhatsApp groups in their respective Assembly consisting of social organisations and NGOs to facilitate the entire process.
The party MLAs had submitted a list of locations where new night shelters and food distribution centres can be established for the needy. Based on the input from the MLAs, the Delhi Government has now established new shelters and food distribution centres.
“The party MLAs and workers are working tirelessly on ground to ensure food distribution to poor people affected by lockdown in their area. The lockdown has severely affected the lives of many poor people, daily-wagers and labourers. Therefore, the Delhi government has not only started free food distribution through night shelters but has also set up food distribution centres,” the party said in a statement.
AAP MLA from Uttam Nagar Naresh Baliyan distributed dry food packets and almost 10,000 packets of 5 kg flour and 10,000 packets of 1 kg rice to the poor people in his constituency. He has also set up 200 WhatsApp groups in Uttam Nagar Assembly consisting of social organisations and NGOs to facilitate the entire process.
“All these organisations are working with the MLA to ensure no one stays hungry in the area. Mr Balayan had also submitted a list of locations where new night shelters can be built and new food distribution centres can be opened. The Delhi government has made necessary arrangements as per the requirements raised by the MLA,” it said.
Another Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Praveen Kumar from Jungpura said that his team is feeding almost 5000 people daily. “We are distributing food in 18 police stations areas, 2000 packets two times a day. Apart from this we have identified several locations where we are distributing food through our volunteer teams. Our team is also involved in facilitating distribution of ration,” he added.
Kuldeep Kumar, MLA from Kondli said, "Many people who were leaving Delhi, have returned after listening to the appeal made by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. We have made adequate arrangements for their stay and food"
National Spokesperson and AAP MLA Mr Raghav Chadha said, "At this tough time, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has made sure that no one goes to sleep hungry. Today, at Rajendar Nagar Legislative Assembly, I have distributed free food at eight places. We are ensuring social distancing while distributing food,”
“We are working round the clock to ensure sanitizers, food and water for the poor people of the area. There is no need to worry, we are all together working for the relief," said AAP MLA from Timarpur Dilip Pandey.
"The Delhi Government is providing 1.5 times extra ration to the ration card holder residents of Delhi. Today I ensured that in my area all the ration cardholders get this benefit and the initiative was successful," said MLA from Burari Sanjeev Jha.
