Thursday, 30 April 2020 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Delhi Police had intercepted around 35 labourers along with their families when they were leaving on bicycles to their home town in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli on Tuesday night.

Police said the labourers, along with their families, were living in south Delhi's Ambedkar Pahari Aya and were intercepted in Jonapur village when they were going on their bicycles to their hometown in Raebareli.

According to a senior police official, when asked if they faced any problems here, they said they did not have any issue here but they got to known from some people that labour work has started in Raebareli and so they decided to move back to there in search of work.

"However, they were counselled and asked to not leave the city until the ongoing lockdown imposed to contain the spread of Coronavirus was over. Later, all of them returned to their place of stay here," said the senior police official.

In another incident,  13 labourers along with four children who were coming from Panipat were intercepted by the police near Andheria more on Wednesday.

"They were going to Jhansi by foot. They  were given lunch and milk to children and were shifted to a shelter home in the area," police said.
