When the whole world is beset with the corona crisis, Mayurbhanj has some reasons to rejoice and feel relieved.
Some promising developments of recent days have made Mayurbhanj quite optimistic in its fight against the fatal pandemic. At least three other recent developments have proved to be encouraging for the people here. Many describe them as auguring well for this land.
In the middle of the Corona crisis, a few days ago, Sudarsan Chakra of Lord Jagannath of the second Shrikshetra, in a rare gesture, came out of the temple onto the streets. It is widely believed to remove fears from the minds of the Corona-panicked people to boost their morale. Such an event, it is said, was last seen here over 100 years ago, when such a pandemic had broken out. Thus, it is construed here as a divine measure to ameliorate the conditions of the panic-stricken people.
Secondly, only recently Mayarbhanj Maharani Rajyalaxmi Bhanjdeo has performed a rare puja at the feet of Goddess Kichakeswari, the presiding deity of Mayurbhanj. The puja and prayer is meant to minimize the disastrous impact of the Corona virus on the people. Such pujas, it is said, rarely take place in the history of Mayurbhanj.
Another such puja was offered here about 100 years ago, when the global community was afflicted with such an epidemic. Hence the recent puja will have its desired effect, many believe.
The third development has become highly inspirational for the local populace here. It is the sudden appearance of Parijata Pushpa, which is considered to be a heavenly flower. In the garden of Sukadev Tripathy of Ward-15 of this town, this near-miracle has happened. Though the plant has been there for the last 30 years, the divine flower all of a sudden emerged on its branch as if to counter the Corona crisis. This favourite flower of Indra, brought to the earth by Krishna, now enchants the residents of the town.
