In another case of reverse migration, more than 200 migrants boarded four buses on Tuesday evening from Surat in Gujarat to reach their homes in Odisha amid the nationwide lockdown for the virus spread.
Three buses from Hari Nagar and one from Bhestan of Surat headed towards Odisha carrying as many as 228 migrant workers. While three of the buses are on their way to Ganjam, another bus is Nayagarh- bound. The movement of the migrants has been permitted by local administrations.
Earlier on April 27, around 200 migrants had embarked on a journey from Surat to Ganjam district by buses. On reaching Odisha, all migrants will be quarantined at temporary medical camps in their respective areas as per Government norms.
Notably, the State Government has decided to bring back Odia migrant workers who are currently stranded in Gujarat. Most of the workers will be brought back to Odisha by buses, official sources said, adding that decision over using other modes of transportation would be taken after a review.
