‘Patal Lok’ invites Sikh ire, AISSF sends legal notice

All India Sikh Students Federation ( AISSF), Eastern India has sent a legal notice to Amazon Seller Services and the directors of ‘Patal Lok’ web series Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy for allegedly portraying Sikhs as rapists. The youth body has claimed that the series has portrayed the community in bad taste and the rape scenes must be immediately removed. 

The notice alleges that the web series presently being streamed on Amazon Prime has a scene that is portraying the Sikhs as rapists. The notice says that the scene of Patal Lok is hurting the religious sentiments and faith. The scene is not only derogatory but has caused resentment in the whole Sikh community worldwide.

Satnam Singh Gambhir, president, AISSF, Eastern India, who sent a legal notice through Jharkhand High Court advocate Diwakar Upadhyay said that the makers must take immediate steps to remove and delete the rape scene within 24 hours of the receipt of this notice and to unconditionally call back all advertisement featuring the said scene from the web series. He also sought unconditionally apology to the Sikhs.

The president said that Sikh tradition has witnessed examples of women’s moral dignity, service, and self-sacrifice. Sikhs have a rich tradition of treating women as equal to men and historical figures like Mata Sahib Kaur, Mata Gujri and Mai Bhago led lives of bravery.
