Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Thursday that lockdown has been again enforced in cities to prevent the spread of corona infection as people are not following safety and other norms to prevent Covid-19.
In an address to the state, Baghel admitted that lockdown does create difficulties for people but the government could not avoid implementing it again. "This is the time for us to be concerned about the situation, to be cautious and to follow the safety measures seriously."
He said that although the situation in Chhattisgarh is much better compared to other states, the number of infected patients is rising consistently.
These are all the consequences of people not following the precautions during the un-lockdown period, he said.
At the same time, the recovery rate of corona patients is much better in Chhattisgarh and the casualty rate is significantly low, the Chief Minister underlined. With people's cooperation, "we would be able to do even better in preventing corona infection."
He said that presently more than 5,000 samples are being tested every day in the state. Soon this will be doubled.
The Chief Minister urged people to compulsorily wear masks, wash hands frequently and practice physical distancing besides avoiding crowded places.
The government, physicians, sanitation workers and police personnel were all doing their best, he said. "But if people do not take precautions, it would become difficult to prevent the virus."
Baghel said certain groups were protesting against the collection of samples by health workers in certain areas and stopping them from doing the tests.
"I humbly request these groups to understand the situation and its seriousness. These steps are being taken for the well-being of you and your family. Kindly cooperate with the health workers," he pleaded.
The Chief Minister extended greetings for Eid and Raksha Bandhan and urged people to celebrate the festivals only in their homes with their families. "This is extremely necessary to prevent corona infection."
