‘20K die of Zoonotic disease in India a year'

The World Zoonotic/Rabies Day was celebrated in the premises of Government Vet nary Hospital here on Monday. A brief meeting was organised by the Indian Immunological Limited to mark the event. Joint Director Rajat Nanda graced the event as chief guest.

Veterinary surgeons, namely, Dr Kiran Kumar Bisoyi, Dr Soumik Swain and Dr Rabindra Panda joined the celebration and contributed their technical tips to prevent the deadly epidemic that spreads from animals to humans. Addressing the gathering the speakers said that, more than 20,000 persons infected by Zoonotic virus (locally known as Jalatanka) die every year in India. 95 per cent of Jalantank disease in country is caused due to dog biting.

 More than 80 dogs were given preventive injection to prevent the Zoonotic virus/disease. Among others, Dr Kiran Kumar Bisoyi, Dr Soumik Swain, Dr Rabindra Panda, Congress Sahu, Pandav Behera, Dillip Kumar Sadangi, Harish Chandra Nahak, Govinda Patra, Santosh Kumar Pattnaik, Jonarani Nayak and social activist Lalatendu Choudhury participated.
