Situation has turned grave in Tamil Nadu as Saturday saw 938 persons testing positive for coronavirus. The number of persons tested positive for the pandemic till date reached 21,184 on Saturday, according to a release issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
The Government release said as on Saturday there were 9,021 active cases in the State including those in isolation.
The day also saw 687 persons getting discharged from various hospitals in the State. Till date 12,000 persons have been cured and discharged from hospitals.
The death toll reached 160 on Saturday as six more persons succumbed to the pandemic. As the details about the number of coronavirus related issues were trickling in a high level medical board led by Dr Prabhdeep Kaur of the ICMR reportedly told Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy on Saturday that except in the four districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu, the State may relax the existing curbs but with restrictions. This means that Chennai and the four neighbouring districts have become a no-go area.
The number of laboratories testing samples for coronavirus reached 72 on Saturday with one more private laboratory getting commissioned for testing coronavirus.
Except for a 37 year old female who breathed her last at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital due to cardiopulmonary arrest and Covid-19 pneumonia, the remaining five were in the 54 to 72 years of age underscoring the Government’s stance that people above the age of 50 were vulnerable to the pandemic.’
Chennai with 13,980 covid-19 cases topped the table and was closely followed by Chengalpattu (1094), Thiruvallur (902), Cuddalore (453) and Ariyalur (365).
A media release by the Government of Kerala said 58 persons tested positive in the State for coronavirus on Saturday. In addition to this, seven members of Air India cabin crew who were evacuating expatriates from West Asian countries to Kerala too were tested positive. Out of the 58 persons who were tested positive on Saturday, 17 were returnees from foreign countries while 31 were from other States.
The number of hotspots in Kerala went up to 106 on Saturday. There are 1.3 lakh persons in the State who are under observation, said the release.
