The CBI on Monday arrested an absconding accused who was wanted in a fake currency case and evading law for about seven years after being deported from Thailand.
The accused Kuldeep Singh Dua, resident of Distt. Navashar (Punjab) was arrested soon after arrival at the airport here.
The CBI had registered a case under Indian Penal Code Sections relating to criminal conspiracy, buying/selling or trafficking counterfeit currency and possession of fake currency on September 13, 2012 against two accused persons on a complaint from Customs Department, IGI Airport, New Delhi.
It was alleged that Customs (Preventive), IGI Airport, New Delhi had seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) to the tune of Rs 6,01,500 on September 11/12, 2012 from a passenger (Kulwant Rai, resident of Mukatpura, Distt. Navasahar, Punjab), the agency said.
During investigation, the passenger Kulwan Rai had named another accused Kuldeep Singh Dua as the person who handed over him the counterfeit currency notes for carrying the same to India.
After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against Rai but Dua was
continuously absconding for almost seven years and was not available for investigation, and a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.
