The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday witnessed the highest ever spike recording a total number of 786 new coronavirus positive cases in one single day while nine more Covid-19 patients died taking the tally of deaths to 694.
For the first time, Jammu district alone recorded 258 cases, 97 more than Srinagar district on Sunday taking the total active positive cases to 7959.
According to the media bulletin, "the total number of active positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir stood at 7959. Out of these 2060 cases are active positive in Jammu region and 5899 in Kashmir division". Significantly, the recovery rate in Jammu & Kashmir has reached 76 percent and the death rate stood at 1.86 percent.
Out of 37163 cases, 28510 have recovered fully and discharged from different hospitals so far.
Official sources said, Jammu district started reporting a large number of cases after rapid antigen testing was launched across urban and rural centres across the district last week.
"Out of 9943 samples, 365 tested positive across Urban and rural centres of the district till Saturday",official sources said.
