For the fourth consecutive day, Maharashtra crossed 5,000-mark in terms of infections as it recorded 5,257 new positive cases on Monday, while – with 181 fresh deaths -- the total number of deaths in the state’s breached 7,500 mark.
With no letup in the spike in the infections and deaths, the total number deaths in the state mounted to 7610 and the infected cases jumped to 1,69,883.
Of the total deaths reported 181 deaths, 78 occurred in the last 48 hours and 103 deaths are from the previous period.
Of the deaths,Mumbai alone accounted for 92 deaths, a tally that took the total number of deaths in Mumbai from 4,371 to 4463 now. The total number of infected cases in the metropolis rose by 1,226 cases to touch 76,765.
Apart from 92 deaths recorded in Mumbai, there were 26 deaths each in Thane and Pune, 12 in Aurangabad, 11 in Solapur, 8 in Jalgaon, 3 in Amravati and 1 each in Nagpur, Osmanabad and Nashik.
With 88960 patients having been discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year, the recovery rate in the state stood at 52.37 per cent. The mortality rate in the state is 4.48 per cent. The state health authorities pegged the number of “active cases” in the state at 73,298.
Out of 9,43,485 laboratory samples sent to laboratories, 1,69,883 have tested positive (18%) for COVID19 until Monday. Currently, 5,74,093 people are in home quarantine while 37,758 people are in institutional quarantine.
