2 die after inhaling toxic gases from bonfire in room

A 38-year-old man and his wife died after they allegedly inhaled toxic fumes from an angithi in their room in southwest Delhi’s Samalkha area. 

The deceased has been identified as Ram Parvesh and Kavita (34), residents of Gopalji Colony, Samalkha. The couple is survived by three kids, a daughter (11) and two sons (5 and 7).

Deceased were staying at the residence for last 15 years, along with their other family members. Parvesh used to run a small grocery shop in the same locality, police said.

According to a senior police official, on Wednesday morning, the children found that their parents did not come out of their room and called their relatives, who then informed police.

"Police received information about two unconscious persons. They were declared brought dead by Columbia Asia hospital. There was no injury marks or ligature on the bodies. Prima facia, the cause of death seems to be suffocation. The bodies were shifted to DDU Hospital for post-mortem," said the senior police official.

Later, the cause of death was revealed as hypoxemia. Since they were feeling cold, they had lit angithi in their room before they went to , police said.
