LED lighting plays a pivotal role in uplifting the look of your home or workspace. Whether it’s about giving a modern look to the interior design or contemporary look to the exterior design, lighting has become a significant component when you think of decorating your house, shop or office. Novelties in the LED lighting industry are emerging every day to meet the contemporary decorating needs of the masses.

Now who is behind the concept of designing smart lighting systems that complements your space? They are LED light designers who have the perfect knowledge to design decorative LED lights and give a sophisticated look to any defined space. As the LED lighting industry is changing rapidly, new career opportunities are coming up for students who are keen to make a career in this emerging field. Generally, courses related to LED lighting are not included in any college curriculum. However, there are some institutes offering short-term courses related to this. But, after doing this course, you can start a career as an LED engineer or designer in LED manufacturing and designing companies.

Those who want to learn the lighting design essentials can undergo two to three months of certification course. Given the skill gap and the need of the lighting industry, Electronics Sector Skills Council of India formed under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and National Skill Development Corporation offers a short-term course in this field via its different training partners. The candidate should have BTech or BE or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Optical or Mechanical Engineering for doing such short-term courses.

Career Opportunities: This sector has both job and self-employment opportunities. There are many renowned electronic companies in the country, where one can easily get job in this field. In the field of LED lighting, skilled freshers can get jobs on a package of `2.5 lakhs per annum. Further, your salary depends upon the company’s policy and your performance.

Entrepreneurship opportunities: In addition to jobs in the field of LED lighting, there are also good opportunities for entrepreneurship. After engineering most of the youth are coming into this field and starting their business in LED lighting. Due to the Self-Reliant India campaign and the Startup India campaign of the Government of India, youth are getting attracted towards it in every state of the country. Youth can also avail startup business loans from the bank to start their business. Low-cost traders can start the business of making lamp components. For starting a new business, at least required `4 to `5 lakhs initially.
