Man, son held for supplying weapons to criminals

The sleuths of Delhi Police (Crime Branch) have arrested a man and his son, for allegedly supplying illegal weapons to criminals in Delhi and its peripherals. With their arrest, police have busted an inter-state illegal gun supply chain in the national Capital. Police have also recovered eight semi-automatic pistols with 18 cartridges from the possession of the accused.

The accused have been identified as Haroon, (45) and his son Imran (25). Both are residents of Humayun Nagar in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh (UP). Police said that the father, son duo had supplied hundreds of weapons to criminals across  Delhi, Haryana and UP in the last one decade.

According to Dr G Ram Gopal Naik, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime Branch, on March 26, specific inputs were received that Haroon, who is previously involved in supply of illegal arms, along with his son would come to deliver a consignment of illegal arms near Delhi Gazipur Fruit Mandi.

"Acting on the tip off a trap was laid and duo was apprehended by the police team," said the DCP.

"During interrogation, the accused Haroon disclosed that in year 2009 he came in the contact of Raees, a supplier of the illegal fire arms. Haroon started purchasing illegal fire arms from Raees. He started supply of illegal fire arms in Delhi-NCR," said the DCP.

"In year 2010, Haroon was arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell for illegal possession of arms and ammunition along with four of his associates. He went to jail where he came in contact with many criminals of Delhi and UP. After coming out of jail, he contacted the criminals personally and started supplying of weapons as per their demand," said the DCP adding that son of Haroon, Imran during interrogation revealed that from last two years he along with his father was supplying illegal arms in Delhi-NCR.

"The network of the suppliers and buyers is being scanned. Further investigation of the case is in progress," the DCP said.
