Residents of Sandhibahali village in Nuapada district gheraoed the Khariar police station demanding compensation for the family of a youth, who was killed in road mishap on Thursday.
The youth Kodanda Barik (20) was returning home at night when two bikers hit him from behind. He was admitted to the Khariar Community Health Centre and later shifted to the Mission Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
As the villagers staged protest before the police station, local Additional Tehsildar Tapan Kumar Nayak came to the spot and handed over Rs 10,000 to the youth’s family from the Red Cross Fund.
Besides, the local Sarpanch gave Rs 2,000 to the bereaved family under the Harischandra Yojana.
Police detained the two bikers and began an investigation.
