In urban areas women in good numbers are coming forward and adopting yoga. However, in rural areas they are still hesitant in accepting it

Women in Raipur are increasingly becoming health conscious and are     joining yoga sessions in large number to keep them healthy and fit.

“In urban regions women in good numbers are coming forward and adopting yoga. However, in rural region they are still hesitant in accepting it,” said Dr Radhika Chandrakar from Rawatpura Sarkar University Raipur.

According to Dr Chandrakar, who holds a PhD in yoga, events like ‘International Yoga Day’ and ‘Fit India Movement’ have given a real boost to the ancient Indian science of mental and physical exercises.

In past four to five years even parents have become aware of yoga and they are   suggesting their children to peruse courses in yoga rather than plain graduation courses, she said.

“I have been constantly practicing yoga for over a year and it has really improved my heath,” said Nandani Upadhyay a resident of DD Nagar locality in Raipur.

Notably, recently during a meeting of ‘Chhattisgarh Yog Commission’ chaired by state cabinet minister Anila Bhediya the state government had decided to create a comprehensive annual yoga calendar. It was also decided that periodic yoga competitions will be held Chhattisgarh to give yoga a push in the state.
