Woman, paramour held for killing child in R’gada

A two-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by his mother’s paramour in Rayagada district. Police have arrested the woman and her alleged paramour in connection with this.

The woman Shakila Das and her husband Ashok Das are residents of Chandrasekharpur  in Bhubaneswar. They used to sustain themselves by selling different items at fairs and exhibitions across the State. During past few years, the couple frequent visited Rayagada town to do business, said Raygada SP S Shravan in a Press conference here on Wednesday.

In the meantime, the woman developed love affair with a cousin brother named Partha Sarathi Dhal, working with a private telecom company here. On October 24, Shakila visited Rayagada along with her son to stay at her paramour’s place.

But seeing them Dhal, in a fit of rage mercilessly beat the child, following the child become unconscious. Though all this happened in presence of her, she remained a silent spectator, Shravan said.

The duo then rushed the child to the District Headquarters Hospital and told the doctors that it had fallen from the cot.

But on suspicion, the hospital authorities informed police after the child succumbed to the injuries, the SP said.

After getting the postmortem report on Tuesday and the findings of their investigations, police arrested Shakila and Partha Sarathi and forwarded them to court under relevant sections of the IPC.
