Unnao rape victim’s family wrote to CJI about threats by Sengar’s aides

The family of Unnao rape victim had peceived threat to their lives a fortnight back and written to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Tarun Gogoi and the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court about their apprehensions. The letter dated July 12, sent to the CJI with signatures of the rape victim, her mother and aunt, alleged that Manoj Singh, brother of jailed BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, had come to their house along with his henchmen on July 7 last and threatened them with dire consequences if they did not withdraw rape charges against the legislator.

On July 8, they again came along with Haripal Singh, husband of Shashi Singh, one of the accused in Unnao rape case, and warned them that if they did not withdraw the rape charges, entire family would be implicated in false charges as they had done in the case of Mahesh Singh, uncle of the rape victim. The letter, which was made available to the media, also said that they were attaching video clippings of the threat handed out by the aides of the MLA. It may be mentioned that one of the signatories of the letter, Pushpa, was killed in the accident in Rae Bareli on Sunday.
