The World Bank funded Uttarakhand Disaster Recovery Project (UDRP) under the Disaster Management department won the South Asia Procurement Innovation Awards (SAPIA) 2018 for adopting innovative approach and best practices in project procurement and implementation of works in various districts of Uttarakhand after the June 2013 disaster. The award was given to the project during the Sixth South Asia Region Public Procurement Conference which was held in Thimphu, Bhutan recently. This information was not released earlier due to the election model code of conduct.
Disaster management additional secretary Savin Bansal said that the project fully met the prescribed World Bank regulation guidelines. The department will also work towards achieving such standards in UDRP- Additional Financing, he added.
Apart from being selected as the winner from India, UDRP also ended up at the runner up position in South Asia region for adopting innovative approach and best practices in project procurement and implementation of works. A total of 42 projects from eight South Asian countries had participated for the awards.
