In an important decision taken in a bid to stop illegal levy collected by the cops in the name of vehicle’s documents verification, the state government has now decided that only a ‘chalan’ could be issued on the spot.
Fine for violation of traffic rules can be collected only at a control room to be set up at district Superintendent of Police’s (SP’s) office.
Informing about the decision, home minister Tamradhwaj Sahu told media persons here on Tuesday that from now onwards only a police officer not lower than the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police could be able to verify the documents of vehicles.
Informing about the new rule for the ‘traffic checking’ of the vehicles, the minister informed that from now onwards fine would not be levied on the spot in case of any violation. The fine would have to be deposited for the Chalan at a special desk formed at SP’s office premises, he said.
The minister further stated that the main task of the traffic department was to systemise haphazard traffic in the cities of the state and that the emphasis now would be given on that aspect.
