Three persons died and seven were injured in a road accident at Gorshali motor road in Uttarkashi, where a four-wheeler carrying nine passengers returning from a marriage function fell down the mountainside into a gorge. The local police team and local unit of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued the seven victims and recovered the bodies of other three people.
The deceased have been identified as driver Mahendra Pal (35), a resident of Lata village, Atar Singh (50), a resident of Gorshali and Anup Rawat (35), a resident of Lata. The injured have been identified as Bachendra Singh (39), a resident of Lata, Mahendra Singh (42), a resident of Lata, Rajpal Rana (35) a resident of Gorshali, Narendra Singh (35), a resident of Lata, Yashwant Singh (45), a resident of Gorshali, Rajendra Singh (50), a resident of Gorshali and Ashish resident of Lata.
According to the information provided by district administration, they recived information about 10:45 pm on Thursday night that the driver of a four-wheeler lost control on the Gorshali motor road in Bhatwadi Tehsil.
Upon reaching there, it was found that the driver had died on the spot while two other succumbed to their injuries while they were being referred to the district hospital. The other six people got injured during the accident while one person slipped during the rescue mission.
They all are undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Uttarakashi and have been reported out of any immediate danger.
It is pertinent to mention here that the area comes under the jurisdiction of revenue police.
According to the officials, the investigation in the case is still on.
As the road condition there is normal and the possibility of the driver having a momentary nap seems unlikely, it is possible that he was under the influence of some intoxicant, but it is yet to be ascertained.
