Though mercury had continued rising across the State over the past few days, it suddenly plummeted below normal at several places of the State on Wednesday once again throwing normal life out of gear.
Temperature dipped to 4.0 degree Celsius, the lowest in the State, at Daringbadi in Kandhamal district.
As many as 12 districts recorded temperature drop of 4 to 5 degree.
The Regional Office of the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) here informed that a maximum dip in temperature was witnessed in the north-interior areas whereas regions of coastal and south-interior Odisha recorded minimal drop of 2 to 3 degree.
Regions of Grinbadi, Lainpada, Saringirpi and Kilabadi in Daringbadi of Kandhamal witnessed heavy frost.
According to the IMD, the cold wave conditions would continue across the State for the next 48 hours. Besides, it forecast that temperature is likely to drop by 3 to 4 degree Celsius in Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Angul on Thursday.
