SP fields Azam Khan’s wife from Rampur

Monday, 30 September 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

The Samajwadi Party on Sunday announced to field its Rajya Sabha member Tazeen Fatma for the bypoll to Rampur Assembly seat.

Tazeen Fatma is the wife of SP’s Lok Sabha member from Rampur, Mohammad Azam Khan. Her Rajya Sabha term ends on November 25 2020.

The by-election to Rampur Assembly seat was necessitated following resignation of Azam Khan from the Vidhan Sabha after his election to the Lok Sabha. Azam Khan has represented this seat in the Assembly for nine terms.

The SP announced the list of its candidates with barely a day left for filing nomination papers for the UP Assembly by-elections.

The Samajwadi Party announced it candidates for five assembly seats, which will go to polls on October 21.

As per the list announced by the SP, Sudhakar Singh will be its candidate from Ghosi, Nirbhay Singh from Manikpur in Chitrakoot district,   Gaurav Kumar Rawat from Zaidpur in Barabanki district, Subhash Rai from Jalalpur in Ambedkarnagar district and Brijesh Verma Patel from Pratapgarh.

The SP had earlier announced to field Indrasen from Gangoh in Saharanpur district and Major Ashish Chaturvedi from Lucknow Cantonment.

The Election Commission last week had announced the bypoll schedule for 11 UP Assembly seats where polling will be held on October 21.

The bypolls were necessitated as most of the MLAs representing these seats in Assembly have been elected to the Lok Sabha.

The Assembly constituencies going to bypolls are Gangoh, Rampur, Iglas (SC), Lucknow Cantonment, Govindnagar, Manikpur, Pratapgarh, Zaidpur (SC), Jalalpur, Balha (SC) and Ghosi.

The Ghosi seat fell vacant after Phagu Chauhan, the MLA representing the seat in Assembly, resigned from the House on being appointed Governor of Bihar.

The SP also announced its candidates for the UP Legislative Council election from teacher’s constituency to be held next year.

Umashankar Chowdhary will be the party candidate from Lucknow graduate constituency, and Lal Bihari Yadav from Varanasi and Sanjay Mishra from Bareilly-Moradabad teacher’s constituencies.
