As the Team Punjab Congress, including the party’s newly-elected parliamentarians, legislators including the Ministers, and the state leadership, on Thursday put its head together to do a post-mortem of 2019 election results, the party’s firebrand leader Navjot Singh Sidhu gave it a miss.
Under attack of the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for party’s poor show in urban areas and amidst talks of changing his portfolio, Sidhu opted to skip “tea party” and instead work in his Department.
On the other hand, in Sidhu’s absence, his party colleagues built up a case against the Local Bodies Minister by pinpointing the “loopholes” that cost the Congress votes in urban areas.
Virtually placing Sidhu in dock for the party’s performance, the party leaders urged the Chief Minister to ensure that developmental works should be carried out in the cities and urban areas.
Senior leader and Ludhiana Central MLA Surinder Dawar said that the funds sanctioned for development of cities had not been released and had remained on paper. Amritsar South MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria also pointed out that the municipal corporations, which come under the Local Bodies Department, had not done adequate work in the cities.
