To avoid any kind of untoward incident on New Year’s eve celebrations, the Delhi Police has strengthened its presence in the vicinity of markets, malls, restaurants, pubs and bars, in order to ensure orderly celebration.
Police said all Police Control Room (PCR) vans, Raftaar bikes and Prakhar vans will be dynamically deployed at vulnerable points across the national Capital.
“In addition to maximum mobilisation of personnel from district units of the Delhi Police, a total of 20 Coys of additional force including 4 Coys from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) will be deployed to bolster the visibility of police,” said Anil Mittal, Additional Public Relation Officer (APRO), Delhi Police.
“Integrated checking will be carried out by local police, PCR and Traffic Police to check drunken driving and boisterous revelry and hooliganism on roads. One Coy of women police personnel will be especially deployed in New Delhi District, to strengthen women’s safety measures,” said Mittal.
“Traffic movement will be restricted and regulated in and around Connaught Place and India Gate areas. Senior officers will supervise the arrangements on ground. The Delhi Police advises citizens not to indulge in drunken driving or hooliganism and wishes all a Safe and Secure New Year,” said Mittal.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police on Monday said that they have made elaborate traffic arrangements accross the city for the smooth flow and regulation of traffic on the eve of New Year.
“There will be well laid arrangements covering whole of Delhi where such celebrations shall be organised. Special arrangements have been made for the areas in the vicinity of Connaught Place,” said a senior traffic police official.
“From 8 pm on December 31, no vehicle shall be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond Mandi House, Bengali Market, North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road -Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road near New Delhi Railway Station), RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg Crossing, Gole Market, GPO, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Road - Ferozshah Road Crossing, Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane and Windsor place,” stated the Delhi Traffic Police advisory.
“Traffic arrangements have also been made at the places having high footfall, including Saket, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, New Friends Colony, Hauzkhas, Defence Colony, VasantVihar, R.K. Puram, Nehru Place, Dwarka, Palam Air Port, Rajouri Garden Area, Ashok Vihar Area, Model Town Area, Mayur Vihar area and other areas. Necessary traffic diversions as per requirement shall also be done,” the advisory further stated.
Exit points at the Rajiv Chowk metro station will be closed at 9 pm on New Year’s eve, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on Monday
“To ease overcrowding on New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2019), exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station will not be allowed after 9 PM onwards. Entry of passengers will be allowed till the departure of the last train. Please plan your journey accordingly,” the DMRC tweeted.
Rajiv Chowk is one of the busiest stations of the Delhi metro.
