The district police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of New Year revelry in and around the State Capital to prevent untoward incident on the occasion.
“The police constables, including lady cops as well as policemen dressed in civil attire have been deployed at Rock Garden and also in the adjoining Kanke Dam area where maximum number of people pay visits on New Year. The cops have been directed to patrol their respective areas to ensure safety for women revellers,” said Ranchi City Superintendent of Police Sourabh.
“We will ensure random checking of drunk driving with breath analyzers. This is aimed at preventing the people, especially the youngsters from causing nuisance under the influence of alcohol,” Saurabh added.
Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Ranchi, Rishabh Kumar Jha, on Sunday said, “I have visited Dasham Fall which is the most popular picnic spot of this area. A large number of people gather here for picnic. Some people drowned in the falls while taking selfie despite clearl warnings. With a view to stop it the local committee at the fall installed barricading at dangerous places and the department has instructed local police stations to maintain vigil on the dangerous places.”
Jha further said, “The local police stations have been asked to monitor the crowd and keep a watch. The security would be further beefed up on January 1, when at least 10,000 people will visit the five waterfalls in the rural places of the district. All the concerned police stations have been asked to continue patrolling near the spots.”
The department has also sought support of local villagers to provide safety at picnic spots
The SP said, “With the aim to prevent molestation and to provide safety for females and girls because a large numbers of women and girls visit these places during the picnic season the district police assured that it will deploy women police force at all the spots as there are numerous cases of molestation and eve teasing reported during this time of the year.”
A few days earlier Department of Tourism and Police Department had jointly held a meeting to chalk out strategies to conduct peaceful celebration of new year. During the meeting it was decided to enforce a complete ban on liquor consumption at the local areas of the falls, Jha added.
