A joint delegation of SAD-BJP on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh urging him to take suo-motu initiative to extend the session in the larger interests of the State and let there be detailed discussion on the burning issues.
Reducing session to just two sittings is just to fulfil the constitutional formality, rued the delegation.
“Punjab Government has reduced the ensuing state assembly session staring from August 2 to a mere farce while the State is facing serious law and order problems, worsening condition of farmers, ever increasing unemployment, illegal mining and unprecedented hike in power tariff across all categories of consumers,” stated the delegation.
After the meeting, SAD general secretary and MLA Bikram Singh Majithia said that the Speaker was briefed of the futility of having a short session of the assembly as it would serve no purpose if the issues of immediate concern to the people of the state are not discussed.
