Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharma) degree course will begin at Ranchi University from the upcoming session of 2019-20.The RU academic council approved adopting the rules and syllabus approved by Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi, for the same on Wednesday.
The council also approved the implementation of revised norms of 2016 issued by Universities Grants Commission (UGC) for courses of PhD, D.Sc, D.Litt and LL.D, instead of the norms of 2009, which is implemented till date.
The council also decided to increase elective subjects in courses having choice based credit system from one to two from the current academic year.
However, the proposal for registering students of Masters in Performing Arts with other departments to allow them to pursue PhD has been kept on hold by the council.
MA in Performing Arts, a new self financing course started by RU, has several students enrolled but as it is not linked to any of the university departments, these students cannot pursue PhD after their course is over.
Public relations officer of RU, PK Jha said, "The council decided that university should request the Government to make a full fledged department for performing arts instead."
