Rs 200-cr relief given to flood-affected people

Taking prompt action in the districts affected by excessive rain and floods, the State Government has so far distributed relief amount of nearly Rs 200 crore excluding the crop relief amount to the affected families in the State. Distribution of funds for crop damage has been started in the worst affected districts of Mandsaur, Aagar and Neemuch. An amount of Rs 270 crores has been distributed so far in these districts under crop relief head.

Revenue Minister Govind Singh Rajput said that during heavy rains, nearly 75 thousand persons were rescued and taken to safe places with the help of all agencies by the State Government. The survey work in all the districts has been completed. Relief cases are being prepared.

The State Government is working at a rapid pace for the relief distribution, repair, reconstruction and construction of damaged physical infrastructure etc. The state government has demanded an additional amount of Rs 6621.28 crore from the Government of India from NDRF in October itself. The study team of the Central government has visited 21 districts and witnessed the devastation caused due to excessive rains.

Chief Minister Kamal Nath himself has requested the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to provide assistance amount to the state at the earliest. No assistance amount has been given to Madhya Pradesh by the Government of India so far from the NDRF, while the aid to Karnataka and Bihar has already been given.

It may be noted that 60 lakh hectare crop area of about 55 lakh farmers has been damaged due to excessive rains in Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, physical infrastructure has also suffered heavy losses. About 11,000 km roads have been damaged and about 1.20 lakh houses have been damaged.
