Rs 20 lakh jewellery looted from Rajnagar shop

Thursday, 31 January 2019 | PNS | KENDRAPADA

In yet another example of the deteriorating law and order situation in the Rajnagar area in the district, miscreants looted gold ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh from a jewellery shop at the bustling Mahaveer market on Wednesday.

Sources said, the owner of Srimati Jewellers was offering prayers immediately after opening his store in the morning when two youths came on a bike and entered the jewellery shop on pretext of buying jewelleries. Then they decamped with 400 grams of gold ornaments worth around Rs 20 lakh from his shop. Though the shop owner shouted for help, the miscreants managed to flee from the spot in a flash.

On being informed police reached the spot and tried to identify the miscreants by examining the CCTV footages installed inside the shop. Police sources said, all important routes leading to and from the area have been sealed and efforts are on to trace the two looters.

The owner of the shop said, “I was lighting incense sticks during prayers when two people came to my shop. While one waited outside the store, the other one entered and asked to buy ornaments. I showed them some items and continued with my prayers. Taking advantage of it, they snatched the gold ornaments and fled the spot”
