Gomia police today seized Rs 2.5 lakh cash from a car with a Jharkhand number registration at Bokaro, 10 km from here late on Sunday evening. Police said that the Gomia police had set up a traffic check post on the directions of Bokaro police Chief P Murugan on the Gomia-Phusro NH to check the vehicles. When police stopped the car, the driver tried to skip the check post but he later stopped the vehicle. During inspections of the car, cash amounting to Rs 2.5 lakh was found. The owner and driver of the vehicle failed to produce any supporting documents or disclose source of the cash he was carrying.
Police immediately informed the matter to Income Tax authorities, Bokaro. During investigation, the owner of the car failed to give satisfactory reply pertaining to the source of cash before the Income tax authorities who ordered seizure of the cash. Murgan confirmed the seizure of the cash. He said one persons could not carry cash more than Rs 50,000. If one wanted to carry more cash he had to produce the documentary evidence of the cash, added SP.
