The Champua police seized Rs 1,95,000 from a vehicle of Champua Asse-mbly Congress candidate Jadu-mani Barik here on Saturday.
Sources said Jadumani was coming to the Champua Sub-Collector’s office for filing his nominations when police detained his vehicle near Shankarpur village, two km from the Sub- Collector’s office, and found Rs 1,95,000 kept in the vehicle.
When Police wanted to know details about the cash, Barik said he was going to file nominations in the Champua Sub- Collector’s office and thereafter he would deposit the cash in the bank. The deposited cash would be withdrawn in phases to meet his poll expenses as per the election code of conduct.
Later, the candidate alleged that he was unnecessarily harassed by police.
