Two sisters of Ruin village under Kuanrmunda block in Sundergarh district finally got a relief as Sundargarh Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan directed authorities of Saint Mary’s School in Rourkela to return their Class-X certificates.
After media highlighted the plight of the two sisters, Jayashree and Bhagyashree whose Class-X certificates were kept mortgaged by the school since 2017 for not paying fees, the Collector intervened in the matter and directed Saint Mary’s School to hand over the documents immediately.
Worth mentioning, Jayashree and Bhagyashree, who belong to an economically backward family, passed out the ICSE Class X from Saint Mary’s School in June 2017 with ‘A’ grade. However, the school refused to give the certificates to the duo. Following this delay, they have been unable to pursue higher studies and take admission in any college. “When we requested the school authorities, they said, pay the money and take your certificates,” said Jayashree.
