Light-to-moderate rainfall lashed parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Sunday, keeping the maximum temperature in the region below normal levels.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana received 17.9 mm rainfall. After rains, the city settled at maximum temperature of 23 degree Celsius, ten notches below normal. In Haryana, Ambala recorded 16 mm rainfall till Sunday evening. The maximum temperature in Ambala was recorded at 25.7 degree Celsius, eight notches below normal. Narnaul settled at a high of 32.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, while the maximum temperature in Hisar was 31.6 degrees Celsius, down by five notches from the normal.
Karnal recorded maximum temperatures of 27.4 degree Celsius, six degrees below normal. In neighboring Punjab, Amritsar received 17 mm rainfall and recorded maximum temperature at 27.3 degree Celsius, seven degrees below normal.
Patiala, which received light rainfall, settled at 27 degrees, six notches below normal while Ludhiana recorded a maximum of 25.7 degree Celsius, eight degrees below normal. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Punjab and Haryana in next 24 hours.
