Rain brings life to a standstill in State

Incessant rain for the past three days have disrupted normal life in State with several rivers flowing over danger mark and low lying areas getting inundated. Reports of mud houses and old constructions getting washed away due to rains and a number of people getting injured are also coming in from several areas.

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, who is in Jharkhand for a three-day visit, had to cancel his visit to Vikas Bharti, Bushunpur in Gumla district and Baba Baidyanath Dham temple in Deoghar due to bad weather. Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay said that President’s visit was cancelled due to heavy rains and bad weather. The president was scheduled to stay in Deoghar for about 3:30 hours.

Similarly, Chief Minister Raghubar Das, who is continuing his ‘Johar Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ in Kolhan region, had to again cancel his tour on Sunday. CM’s yatra was already postponed on Saturday due to heavy rains and bad weather.

Meanwhile, several small bridges and diversions were also washed away due to rain disrupting connectivity of hundreds of villages to district headquarters. Dozens of houses have also caved in across the State. Reports of at least two people losing their lives have also come.

A woman died due to house collapse in Jamtara, while a youth drowned in the Usari River near Argaghat in Giridih on Saturday afternoon.Authorities are also keeping a vigil over rising level of dams in the State. The rise in water level of many dams is continuous and is likely to increase further.

Train connectivity also remained disrupted due to landslide in Koderma. The Ranchi-Patna Patliputra Express train has also been cancelled on September 29 and 30. The trains going to Patna Junction will have an additional stoppage at Danapur Junction, railway officials informed.

According to Meteorological department the State will also witness rainfall activities on September 30, October 1 and October 02.  However, the rain deficit, which was recorded at 31 per cent recently, has come down to 24 per cent. In the last 24 hours vigorous monsoon activity has been recorded across the State.

In the northern parts of Jharkhand heavy to very heavy rainfall has been reported at some places with the highest being at Koderma district at 198 mm.

As per the weather department, on September 29 most places of Jharkhand received good amount of rainfall while the north- eastern parts will witness heavy to very heavy showers.
