The Prerana International Green Arm organised an International Green Festival here on Sunday under the chairmanship of its commandant-in-chief Dr Dillip Srichandan.
State Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro inaugurating the festival said everyone should be part of the world green fight, which was launched on the occasion to work against global warming and climate change, and plant at least one tree to make the world beautiful.
Dr Srichandan said the festival is being organised from December 29 to January 5 to celebrate the New Year as Green New Year. In the fest, one crore saplings would be planted, 100 awareness programmes, 1,000 street play, 500 rallies would be organised across the world and one crore sapling would be distributed among public in free, he added.
Besides, saplings would be planted at residences of President, Prime Minister, Union Ministers and Odisha Governor, Chief Minister, Ministers and MLAs. On the occasion, a van was flagged off which would distribute saplings to people free of cost. Among others, former MP Prasanna Patsani, Dr Prakash Srichandan, theater actor Daitaree Panda, Jayashree Dhal, Kasturi Debi, Abani Jena, Ajay Swain and Rajeswari Saran were present.
