In order to maintain peace and ensure protection of the Kashmiri students as well as the people from the border State now living in Uttarakhand, the State police have decided to take action against those found giving threats to them to leave the State. Informing,  the director General of Police (DGP) Law and Order, Ashok Kumar stated that appropriate action would be taken against such people.

Issuing the relevant direction on Wednesday, DIG Ashok Kumar said, “As per the direction by the Union Home Ministry, appropriate action will be taken against the persons found indulging in  any kind of violent activity against the Kashimiri students and those from Jammu and Kashmir now residing in the state.”

For effective execution of the order, the additional superintendent of police (ASP) Mamta Vohra has been made the nodal officer  on the matter. Police said that one can contact the mobile number  9412029346 and email id -  mamtasvohra@gmail.com for any query.

It is worth mentioning that Dehradun has a large number of Kashmiri students who study in different colleges and universities. After the attack on a convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Pulwama in Kashmir valley on February 14, Kashmiris living in different parts of the country had been targeted.

In Dehradun too, demonstrations had been held outside the hostels where such students resided. These protests and safety concerns raised by  the parents of these students had prompted the senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Rajya Sabha member, Faiyaz Ahmed Mir to arrive in Dehradun. Following interaction with the students and the officials, the PDP leader had arranged buses for these students in which about 200 students had gone back home.
