Though the authorities in Uttarakhand ignored the complaint made by a school girl in Rishikesh, the office of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi took cognisance of the girl’s complaint regarding the poor condition of sanitation and roads in this town.
Niharika Makhija, a 13-year-old student who studies in Class VIII in Rishikesh said that she had sent a letter to the Dehradun district magistrate and the Chief Minister on the pathetic condition of roads and poor sanitation in Rishikesh. However, since no action was taken, she sent her complaint to the Prime Minister’s office earlier this month.
The PMO forwarded the complaint to the municipal corporation of Rishikesh, directing it to take necessary action. Nihariki said that she came to know about the cognisance taken by the PMO when the corporation officials including the municipal commissioner Narendra Quiriyal visited her home on Monday. He said that he had come to her home after receiving her complaint from the PMO along with instructions to do the needful. The municipal commissioner said that he had received a letter from the PMO in this regard, after which he had met the girl. He further said that he had inspected various sites and directed municipal staff to resolve problems stated by her without delay.
