Hindi play 'Hawaldar Matadin Chand' was performed at KITE studio here on Sunday.
The play was directed by Akash Chodhary and was performed by artists of Karamyogi Theatre Troupe. The artists belonges to 15 different states and brilliantly performed.
It is based on a story by Harishankar Parsai Inspector Matadin Chand. This story wad written about 40 years ago about the Indian police system, has now been transformed into a saga.
The way the attitude of the police is becoming in front of us in the last few years, it is one of the darkest sides of modern Indian democracy. From the independence of India till today, there has been constant questioning on the functioning and behavior of the police. The situation of the police system shown in this story 40 years ago is almost the same even today.
In the story, Inspector Matadin considers the investigation of the investigation or investigation of the police, saying that look, if the man is killed, he is sure that someone must have killed him.
Somebody will be punished. The question is who is to be punished. It is not so much for the police who has committed the crime, rather it is more important to prove the crime on whom. Whether the person is being punished or innocent. Human beings are equal. All are part of the divine. We humans do not discriminate between human beings, this is the humanitarian of the police.
This is what Indian police system has been like since independence. 75% of the country's population is afraid to go to the police station to talk to the police. The police has been harassing the general public, ignoring minor crimes, intimidating people till date. Even today the negligence of the police ruins the life of some innocent person.
The fear of police prevails among the citizens of India, but we need trust in the police. Anarchy spreading in the country cannot be overcome by fear but by faith. In fact, the police of our country needs to improve themselves. Parsai ji described the dilapidated functioning of the police in the story 40 years ago, as it is today, there is no improvement in it. This story is a critical satire on the police.
The functioning of our police has to be changed and the police will have to come out of political pressure under political pressure. The only question is, will the tradition of Inspector Matadin ever end in India?
