A youth, who had lodged a complaint with police on Tuesday that he had been looted of Rs 18 lakh, was arrested on Wednesday by the Khuntuni police in Cuttack district for staging the robbery drama to fund his marriage expenses.

The youth indentified as Santosh Kumar Raj, had lodged a complaint with police that he was robbed of the money by unidentified miscreants at gunpoint on National Highway-55 near Radhakishorepur flyover under the Khuntuni police station on Monday.

He claimed that he was carrying the cash collected from various Pan Masala dealers and returning to his employer’s office, when four miscreants

on two Pulsar bikes intercepted him and decamped with the money.

But finding too many holes in his story, the police during investigations conducted search at his house, during which Rs 15.30 lakh was found concealed under a mattress, police sources said.

Santosh confessed to have falsely reported the case and disclosed that he had given Rs 2,66,000 to one Rakesh Sahoo, which was also seized by police.
