Over 89K youth given jobs in 5th Mega Job Fair: Govt

Punjab Government on Sunday claimed that the ongoing fifth Mega Job Fair has, so far, provided employment to as many 89,224 youth, besides another 27,641 identified for self-employment and 6,727 for skill training.

Giving details, the spokesperson said that the appointment letters will be handed over by the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on October 5 at Chamkaur Sahib. The fair would continue at more than 100 locations identified by the Employment Generation Department till September 30.

Spokesperson said that of the 89,224 selected for jobs at the fair, held across the State under the Ghar-Ghar Rozgar scheme, 33,341 were in the ‘under 10 youth per villages’ programme, while 98 were persons with disabilities.

Of the 27,641 youth chosen for self-employment, there were 18,973 boys, 8,651 girls and 17 persons with disabilities. They would further groom start-ups and entrepreneurship in the State, with the Government facilitating self-employment opportunities. Similarly, as many as 6727 youth have been chosen for Skill Training Programme in this segment.

Maximum 11,289 youth have been selected from Mohali till September 26, followed by 6831 in Jalandhar, 5804 in Sangrur, and 4905 in Patiala. Minimum 1179 have been selected in Sri Muktsar Sahib.

In self-employment category, maximum 3790 have been identified from Kapurthala, while minimum 56 in Bathinda. In skill training segment, maximum 794 had been chosen in Kapurthala, and minimum 43 in SBS Nagar.

The fifth Mega Job fair, which took off on September 9, was aimed at providing 2.10 lakh jobs in the private sector, involving nearly 2,000 companies besides facilitating loans to youngsters for self-employment ventures.

In the previous job fairs, held till February 2019, 55,000 jobs were given to unemployed youth. The packages offered to the youth range up to Rs 10 lakh per annum, the spokesperson further said, adding that the number of applications being received by the department was increasing day by day.

Congress-led Punjab Government had launched ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission’ to empower every unemployed youth with employment (self or wage) as per his or her eligibility.

The programme also involves a dedicated component to skill the unskilled, in order to make them employable. Concerted efforts by the Department of Employment Generation and Training have, so far, resulted in facilitating unemployed youth in getting self or wage employment at the rate of more than a 1000 per day, the spokesman added.
