Odisha University of Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor Prof Surendra Nath Pashupalak on Wednesday expressed strong resentment over the Governor’s action “allowing him to go on a leave” for smooth conduct of an inquiry against him.
“I received a letter on February 26 which says that I am allowed to proceed on leave. When I didn’t apply for leave, how come I am allowed to go on a leave? It is very confusing,” the VC lamented at a Press conference. He also expressed unhappiness saying that while the letter stated about an inquiry, there was no communication to him about the probe.
One the allegation of an advertisement for recruitments in Krishi Vigyan Kendras, he said all rules were followed in making advertisements for SMSs of KVKs.
On fixing of the pension amount of the Vice-Chancellor, Pashupalak said that was done as per the rule of the university. The rule was exactly the same, which was followed in other cases when the person, who has raised allegation against him, was an officer of the university.
The VC stated that he followed the rules for appointment of a Professor to the BPCL Chair and took mild action to one person who was found involved financially irregularities issuing forgery certificate and indiscipline violating service code handled transfer cases in justifiable manners. He attended the international meeting at Kathmandu with due permission from the Chancellor. On reaching Kathmandu, information reached there that the permission was cancelled. Later, he was asked to reimburse the expenditure incurred due to the journey, which he couldn’t.
Pashupalak said he had personally met the Chancellor and apprised him of the issues. He called Additional Secretary and Personal Secretary and asked them to undo the wrongs and allow the Vice-Chancellor to work freely. “But later on, things continued and wrongs were not redressed,” he said.
He demanded that all the documents regarding all the related cases be made public for scrutiny. He accused the Governor’s Secretariat of plotting against him.
