Sipat super Thermal Power Station of the NTPC Limited has undertaken the Girl empowerment Mission (GEM) programme to “enlighten and empower” small girls of nearby villages.
The programme is run under the aegis of Corporate Social Responsibility-Community Development activities.
It has been designed to educate and train the girl child in the age group of 10 to 11 years about academic requirement and extracurricular activities so that they can build and prepare themselves for the future competition, the NTPC said in a press release.
Under this activity 120 girls of 15 government schools of nearby 12 villages are being trained. The duration of the programme is four week and it is fully residential training programme.
The programme is designed to cater basic academics and extracurricular activities like singing, dancing, acting, playing, self defence and basic knowledge about computer application.
One of the trainees Sandhya Chouhan of village Nawadih expressed her satisfaction about the training programme. Sandhya said, “Before joining this training camp I have no goal in my life, but after spending 10 days in the camp, I now wants to become a teacher and help other children.
Another trainee Sanjita from village Devri dreams of joining armed forces and to serve the nation.
Similarly, Nilam Sonwani from village Janji expressed her wish of becoming a police.
Country wide the NTPC is organizing this programme for girls empowerment. Ten percent meritorious students will be offered seat in best schools of NTPC township free of cost as a day scholar.
