Meet non-resident Odia (NRO) Sahadev Swain (58), a resident of Saliancha village under Aul block. He is a renowned gynaecologist at the London-based Blenehone Medical Centre.
But the love for his native land attracts him to his village at regular intervals, when he holds free health check-ups and inspires school children to achieve big in life.
Swain had his education in village schools and later, he did his higher studies at the Khallikote College, medical course at MKCG Medical College Hospital and at Banaras Hindu University. He got Common Wealth Scholarship and went for gynaecology training at Glasgow town. For the last 27 years, he has been working in London.
“Whenever I get a break from my busy life, I prefer to visit my native village and spend my holidays with the family members, friends and fellow villagers by organising health camps, creating awareness on education and healthy lifestyle,” said Swain.
Swain too organised a health camp in the premises of Saliancha Primary school, where he started his education, said village head Keshabananda Parida. Recently, during his visit to village, he orgainised health check-ups for over 200 fellow villagers, including women, girls and elderly persons. He too organised a felicitation ceremony on Saturday with the help of his classmate, Gunadhar Samal and provided shawl and flower bouquets to his teachers.
Later, he interacted with the school kids and gave the mantra of becoming a successful person in a life.
“One should not encourage people to build temple in the village; rather work for development of education, health, agriculture of the village,” said Swain.
