Some departments in the VIMSAR, Burla may get derecognised if the Medial Council of India (MCI) takes a tough stand.
Two departments —Microbiology and Skin and VD— face such a threat as no one is interested to join here as a professor even in higher salary. There is also none in the department of Radiology, another important department of the hospital, it is learnt.
The authorities of VIMSAR have also confirmed this. “We floated advertisements for six Professor posts. But we got only one Dr Sribascha Mohapatra who joined in the department of Surgery. Even doctors are not interested to join here as Professors against a monthly salary of Rs 2 lakh,” informed dean, VIMSAR, Prof BM Mishra.
But amidst this, there is a good news for VIMSAR as well. 12 doctors will join very soon here in different senior posts.
At present they are working in different health centres of the State, but the State Government has given instructions to the respective district heads to relieve the doctors with immediate effect so that they can join Burla without any further delay.
This move of the Government will also serve VIMSAR in two ways. First, the staff crunch will be solved to certain extent; second, it will keep the institution in an advantageous position before MCI’s visit.
Notably, in the month of May this year, the Director had floated an advertisement for appointment in the posts of Assistant Professors and Associate Professors.
But 12 candidates selected among others are presently working in the State Government jobs in OMHS (Odisha medical health service) cadre.
Hence, the VIMSAR authorities requested the State Government to relieve these doctors from the present assignments so that they can join here.
Earlier, 13 doctors had joined VIMSAR in different posts as they were not in Government jobs and it was easier for them to get relieved from their place of postings.
