Nalco to get Prez Award for Excellent CSR

Sunday, 30 June 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) has been selected for the prestigious President’s Award for Excellent CSR.

The Corporate Affairs Department of the Central Government has selected the Nalco for the award at the national level for introducing and implementing schemes like ‘Nalco ki Ladli’.

Many social organisations have congratulated Nalco CMD Dr Tapan Kumar Chand for the innovative socially beneficial scheme.

Congratulating the NALCO Collective on this achievement, Dr. Chand said, “What began as an initiative to empower the girl child through a CSR programme called ‘Nalco ki Ladli’ is turning out to be a powerful trigger for women empowerment,” Dr Chand said congratulating the Nalco CMD.

The scheme provides adoption of poor girl students to enable them to study and settle in life. At present, the Central PSU has adopted 416 poor girl students from 66 villages of Angul and Damanjodi sectors in 45 schools. The scheme, launched in 2015, promotes the Prime Minister’s call for ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. The Nalco took great care to handpick meritorious girl children belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families located in periphery area of the plants in Damanjodi, Angul and Pottangi. Apart from financially supporting the children from Classes-VIII to X, the aluminium giant has gone beyond the script to empower the child. To ensure a holistic approach to education, beneficiaries are exposed to various programmes and co-curricular activities organised by the company from time to time, including sports activities, workshops, seminars and celebration of various events.

The national firm has also plans to scale up the scheme at Pan India level covering poor girl children of Odisha, aspirational districts of the country and the Nalco’s peripheral villages.

The scheme would immensely contribute for girl child education and women empowerment, said CSR exprts.

To augment the scheme, the company has launched an innovative Employee Social Responsibility (ESR) programme recently to give employees a chance to adopt the Ladlis and support their education.

This programme would enable the company to augment the existing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme with ESR through direct participation of employees, informed an official release.
