Murder convict dies in Durg Central Jail

A murder convict reportedly died after he slipped down from stairs in Central Jail, Durg, officials said here on Saturday.

“Rajendra Dewangan, a native of Kabirdham, who was serving a life term, slipped down from the stairs of duplex prison cell between 5:30 and 6:00 am in the Durg central jail,” Jail Superintendent Yogesh Singh Kshatri said.

After the incident, Dewangan was rushed to jail hospital where doctors informed that due to intense head injury, Dewangan succumbed, the jailer said.

During initial investigation and taking into account nature of injuries on the body of the deceased, it seemed he had slipped from the stairs, the jailer added.
