Missing Andaman sailor sent home from Puri

Thursday, 31 October 2019 | PNS | PURI

Missing boatman of Andaman, Amit Khujur, who had been rescued from seashore by villagers near Parikud in the Chilika area on last Friday, left Puri for Kolkata on Wednesday.

He was given a ceremonial adieu by the administration. Additional DIPRO Jitendriya Jena accompanied Khujur by a flight from Bhubaneswar. The Port Blair administration was intimated to receive him on Thursday.

Ever since Khujur had gone missing in the sea, he was starving without food and water for 26 long days. He along with a friend went missing during a storm while returning to shore after unloading goods from a ship in the sea. After a few days, they reached a ship near Myanmar and collected fuel, food and water and left for Andaman. But the boat again went missing as weather worsened suddenly. His mate died in the boat. He threw the body to the sea after it decomposed.
