Unidentified miscreants on Friday night allegedly attempted to rape a woman at Poipata village under the Nikirai police station in the district. But as locals rushed to the spot, they fled.
Sources said three miscreants knocked at the victim’s door at late. When the family did not open the door, they broke it and barged into the house.
When the woman’s husband offered stiff resistance, the culprits severely thrashed him and his two minor sons.
Later, they dragged the woman to the nearby farmland and tried to outrage her modesty.
Hearing the family’s screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the woman. Later, the couple and their two sons were rushed to the
District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
The condition of the two children and the injured man is said to be stable now. But the woman is still unconscious and is under observation, sources added.
While the police are investigating into the matter, it is suspected that the incident was the fallout of land feud.
